Front Cover Plan 3

In this front cover design idea I have kept the masthead the same but I want the female character that I would be using to be behind the masthead and I would want the fonts to be nice big and bold. I would want the colour scheme to be blue and white a soft toned down colours. I have tried to show the rock hip theme by drawing a person in a relaxed cool position and having the main colour scheme to be cool vibrante colours with a bit of black to signify the rock theme I am looking for. I have tried to match the main genre of the magazine with the main masthead and the colour scheme.

Front Cover Plan 2

For this front cover plan I have done a huge main image of a female looking directly at the camera. I have also drawn the female in the left third so that is my magazine was shown to be displayed in the magazine racks then  it will catch the readers eye because the female would be seen to be displayed. I have added boxes and highlighted some of the area's in which I would want to stand out. I have done this front cover so it goes with the hip-hop rock theme I have as my main genre. the colour scheme I would be using would be creams and vibrant colours. I haven't changed the masthead because I would prefer it to be called rewind magazine. I don't have a main cover line in this design idea.

Front Cover Plan 1

For my first intentions I am trying to convey the pop music industry by using a semi seductive picture of a person in a side position. I am trying to convey the hip-hop life style by using stereotypical words such as devil and risen. The colour scheme I will be intending would be red and black to match the wording I have put in the masthead. The big image would be of a side view of a singer looking at it's audience. I would want the female to be dressed in casual clothing to relate and represent with my target audience. The cover lines are  in a different range of fonts but in the same colour scheme so they compliment the main image. My masthead would be rewind magazine with the words rewind in a smaller font in the larger front masthead.

Profiling Audience

Zara is 22, she is a funny, pop rock loving music fan. As a female she is constantly dedicated in her music and is inspired by the modern singers such as Katy Perry and Lady Gaga. She loves the rock swagger blending in with the funny bubbly pop. She is in part-time employment as she also is a university student and she is continuously relying on her music to help her concentrate. As a student she is staying with her parents but still has her time to have fun and party. Zara’s gets her reasonable amount of salary and she is dedicated in her music so much that she spends a quarter of money in buying a wide range of the same magazine. She is a loyal customer to her magazine and buys up to six magazines every two weeks. She buys three albums in two weeks. She loves reading and designing and has a thrill in finding new bands and new music. She uses her knowledge and creativity to make her own style of the album covers she buys. She is influenced by her friends and her cousins. She loved modern 21st century technology and is always on Face book, Twitter, YouTube on her HTC phone looking up new singers and songs. She doesn’t bring her mates round because she is always out until late parting and going to concerts, shows and big night outs. She is very open minded and loves new experiences. Overall she is a passionate music fan and she is interested in clothing and style. She has her own unique style and loves games and music.
Looking at this female music fan I will be having competitions to win modern technology in my music magazine. My target audience would be teenagers and adults between the ages of 19- 27. I will be targeting males and females but particularly females. I will have double page spread on interviews with celebrities. I will have some pages in the back about fashion clothing, jewellery and accessories.

jenny has been added to the conversation.

little madam says
hi
sharlé says
Hello.
jenny says
hello~
little madam says
what type of magazine do you like reading?
sharlé says
The type that includes music and fashion. It's interesting to me.
jenny says
same here! i like both music and fashion!
sharlé says
Wow great!
little madam says
how often would you read a magazine?
jenny says
i tried to read a lot but it's rarely because of the actual price.
sharlé says
I used to read them a lot, but not so much now- They take up too much space to keep. And it's a waste to throw them away.
little madam says
do you specifically buy 1 magazine or are you looking at what artists are on the front cover?
jenny says
i look at the front cover whether if i like it or not. it's just my preference.
sharlé says
The shop I go to only has a couple of magazines. So I just buy the one that looks most interesting at the time. (It's a very, small shop)
little madam says
how regularly do you buy a maga zine?
jenny says
2-3 within a month i think?
sharlé says
I get one every week. I just don't read them.
so you guys both agree that magazines are a bit expensive?
jenny says
of course! it's the main way i've stopped reading them recently.
sharlé says
Yes definately. I think they're overpriced.
jenny says
reason*
sharlé says
Plus you have to throw them out eventually anyway, so it's a bit of a waste of money.
little madam says
do you think that music magazines should target a specific demographic audience or a more wider range for a more diverse audience?
sharlé says
Define demographic.
little madam says
basically should it be aimed at a specific audience or not?
jenny says
i think diverse since then people wont feel discriminated or left out.
sharlé says
I think that a specific audience gives the magazine a clear audience to please
you can't aim it at everyone..
little madam says
should the image on the front cover relate completly on the genre of music of that magazine?
sharlé says
As long as it relates a little bit.
jenny says
it should because it weren't, whats the point?
little madam says
what do you find appealing on a magazine?
jenny says
the front cover, it has to appeal to me!
sharlé says
A strong colour scheme. Wow, this is just the best aspect of a magazine for me.
Great colours create a great, reading atmostphere.
little madam says
jenny can u explain on what you mean do you find the genre, music, colour scheme, artist interesting
jenny says
i guess the colour scheme since it can changes people's feelings.
blue for cold or sadness etc.
little madam says
do you think music magazines should appeal over seas?
sharlé says
I think it's preferance. Are people over seas buying these magazines?
jenny says
it would take a lot of money to ship it to other countries.
sharlé says
Yes, money that can be spent more efficiently on other aspects of a magazine.
little madam says
what do you like about this magazine?
jenny says
provides me information that i want and it's accessible to purchase it.
sharlé says
I like the accessability of it.

To record a Voice Clip, hold down the button or press F2 while speaking. Release the button to send your message.

sharlé says
The colours are nice.
jenny says
how kelly looks bold and fierce.
sharlé says
I like her clothes. As a big fan of Kelly,
It makes me want to wear something similar!
little madam says
ok and finally whay do you hate about this magazine or what do you think can be improved?
jenny says
the lack of colour? using more would be much better in a way it's eye catching!
sharlé says
I think the font at the sides looks a bit dull.

Textual Analysis: Q Music Magazine Front Cover 4

In my textual analysis I will be talking about the main points you will need to actually analyse a music magazine. I will be talking about the information which the readers look for to buy their magazine.

This magazine front cover consists of a coloured photograph of a women looking directly at the camera. The photograph taken is in a medium long shot showing her head, arms, waist and hands. She is standing up (legs visible) posing her hips at an angle. Her knee is visible in the shot. The background of the photograph is grey and the photograph covers the whole magazine cover. Behind the female is the masthead and in front of her are nine separate cover lines in the colours white, red and black. The photograph women’s name is in large white letters in a serif font. The white is repeated in the different cover lines. The barcode is visible in the bottom right hand corner.

Q’s masthead is very extraordinary with the red background and the white letter on top. The front used is a sans serif font. The masthead is just one letter to signify power. The style used is similar to the toy shop called “toys ‘r’ us” font which proves my point of the one letter showing power. The letter ‘Q’ tells the readers that it is questioning whoever is on the cover, which gives the scene that their readers want to always know more about celebrities and are not scared to ask.

The celebrity which is photographed is the victorious Lady Gaga. She is posing by her hips at an angle with her hand covering her breasts and her other hand touching her trousers. Her pose, body language, facial expression and clothing are very sexually suggestive and desirable.

Her clothing is rubber latex trousers with spikes on the edges. She is not wearing a top but just some rubber gloves which the fingers are purposely long. This costume is chosen specifically to appeal to the target audience of the magazine who are most likely to be male. She is not wearing any clothing from shoulders to waist but her hands are covering her breasts although you can see the shape of them. This shows she is appealing to her male target audience.

Her non-verbal communication is also very desirable. She is displaying her mouth half open with nude colour lipstick and her white teeth. She is looking directly at the camera with her bold eye make-up and wild hair style. The lighting is in a high key as the photograph is displaying the morning time. There is no setting but just a grey background which represents how she attracts her readers and is therefore representing her half nude theme.

The main cover line that relates to her photograph says “Lady Gaga has risen”. This is making a reference to the album she made called ‘the fame monster’. She is representing how she has changed from singing in bars and night clubs to singing live at concerts. Her costume is very exposed and she represents that her music video is exposed through her costume. The other different cover line tells us that this magazine doesn’t just concentrate on Lady Gaga but in fact other singers. This magazine doesn’t just concentrate on one genre of music. The other artists mentioned on the other cover lines are Madonna, Gorillaz, Slash, Jimi Hendrix, Julian Casabancas, John Lydon and Jedward. These artists are from the rock, pop, genre. The only person mentioned who is not a musician is mumford & sons. The way the cover lines are written reveals that this magazine is also interested on current news. Some of the cover lines are in a sans serif font and some are in a serif font. This suggests that Q magazine isn’t afraid of mixing and is confident that their readers will enjoy their magazines.

Considering all these points I believe that Q magazine has a wide range of audiences from the ages of 20-55. The gender it would appeal to would be males because they would already know about this genre and the type of cultures. This magazine has a wide range of musical styles and this will attract the readers more. The readers are likely to be well educated.

Overall, I have found out what appeals to the readers, what a magazine must have to get their readers attention and the type of photographs they use.
